Shared Space

About the Shared Space

We provide a unique collaborative workspace called the Shared Space. This helps communities of health care staff, and partners in care - including patients, carers and public - to share knowledge and work together in the following ways.

How we collaborate

  • Sharing local and personal knowledge - including policies, guidelines, reports, e-Learning resources, good practice, patient information, learning from experience, case studies, conference abstracts and posters.

  • Working collaboratively - including managing consultation, collaborative authoring and publication, supporting project management, organising meetings and managing paperwork.

  • Sharing dialogue and interpretation - as well as seeking and giving advice on questions of common interest. For example, we provide a contacts directory, online discussion, expert advice communities and a question and answer database.

  • Keeping up to date with developments - including alerts on new resources and discussion, sharing news and information about events and courses.

  • Building community websites or community learning environments. These store and organise the resources and know-how produced by each community. They also capture resources on the internet which are relevant to each community, as well as sharing news (including events and courses) and provide support for online discussion within and across communities.

Structure of Shared Spaces

The Shared Space supports sharing of information resources, experience, good practice and communication.  Some Shared Spaces supportfor members of a "Managed Knowledge Network" (MKN), an MKN is a national group of individuals sharing a broad common interest or concern - for example, in a clinical condition such as cancer, coronary heart disease, diabetes, etc - or in issues.

Each MKN comprises many communities, each with a specific interest in a particular subject or piece of work. For example, within the Information Governance MKN there are communities concerned with Freedom of Information, Information Security, Data Protection and Health Records management.

Some of these communities are task-oriented, working on specific Projects, eg production of a report or guideline.

And within each community or project there may be SubGroups with an even more specific area of focus.
