  1. 1BMJ (Drugs and Therapeutics Bulletin)

    BMJ are providing online training on the Drugs and Therapeutics Bulletin.

    Register at the BMJ training page

    Click on Upcoming events and select the training session that you wish to register for.

  2. 2EBSCOhost (DynaMed, Nursing Reference Center, Rehabilitation Reference Center)

    EBSCOhost provides access to three point of care resources DynaMed, Nursing Reference Center, Rehabilitation Reference Center.

    DynaMed is a clinical reference tool for use primarily at the 'point-of-care'. DynaMed is updated daily and monitors the content of over 500 medical journals and systematic evidence review databases.

    Nursing Reference Center (NRC) provides a user-friendly point-of-care resource intended for staff nurses, nurse administrators, nursing students, nurse faculty, and hospital librarians. It delivers the best available and most recent clinical evidence and knowledge on conditions and diseases via a nursing-specific graphical interface.

    Rehabilitation Reference Center (RRC) is an evidence-based clinical reference tool for use by rehabilitation clinicians at the point-of-care. RRC provides physical therapists, occupational therapists and rehabilitation students with the best available evidence for their information needs. Content in RRC includes more than 300 Clinical Reviews, more than 150 research instruments, information from AHFS on over 11,700 drugs and their manufacturers, more than 9,800 exercise images, key reference handbooks, guidelines from the National Guidelines Clearinghouse, nearly 1,500 relevant patient education topics in both English & Spanish, and news and clinical updates.

    Online training

    EBSCO Publishing are offering free online training sessions to NHS Scotland users. These sessions will be suitable for those who are new to these databases or for those who wish to refresh their skills.

  3. 3EBSCOhost (Cinahl, PsycINFO)

    EBSCOhost provides access to two key databases Cinahl and PsycINFO.

    CINAHL provides a comprehensive source of full text for nursing and allied health literature.

    The PsycINFO , database, American Psychological Association’s (APA) renowned resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, is the largest resource devoted to peer-reviewed literature in behavioral science and mental health.

  4. 4The Cochrane Library

    The Cochrane Library is a unique source of reliable and up-to-date information on the effects of interventions in health care. Published on a quarterly basis, The Cochrane Library is designed to provide information and evidence to support decisions taken in health care and to inform those receiving care.

    Wiley provide both instructor-led training sessions as well as self-paced tutorials, including

    Emerald publishes the world's widest range of management and library & information services journals. It also contains a strong specialist range of engineering, applied science and technology journals.

  6. 6Micromedex (Martindale, DrugDex, Reprorisk, IV Index)

    Live and recorded Online Training, Quick Reference Cards, Interactive Online Tutorials, Users Guides, and other promotional resources are all available free from the MICROMEDEX Training page.

  7. 7OVIDSP

    OVIDSP provides access to a range of databases including: Medline; Embase; ERIC; HMIC and MIDIRS as well as Books@Ovid; and Journals@Ovid Full Text.

    The OVIDSP Resource Centre offers novice, intermediate, and advanced workshops. Trainers conduct one-hour sessions to assist you with searching techniques on the OvidSP interface. These sessions are live and give you the opportunity to interact with Ovid's Trainers.

    OVIDSP offer a range of training, including

    * Basic Search on OvidSP
    * OvidSP Database Training, e.g. Medline, EBMR, Embase, Psycinfo
    * OvidSP Train the Trainer

  8. 8Proquest

    Proquest provides a gateway to over 350 full-text journals from a range of publishers.

    From early 2011 Proquest will be launching their new platform which will also provide access to the social sciences databases ASSIA.

    Proquest are currently offering New Proquest platform training.

  9. 9RefWorks and RefShare

    Refworks is a tool to manage references and citations.  References can be added from The Knowledge Network, from the databases or manually.  It is available to all with an NHS Scotland Athens username.

    RefShare allows a RefWorks user to easily share a folder of references or their entire database with colleagues to share references while collaborating on a shared project or piece of research.

    The Refworks webinars page at http://www.refworks-cos.com/training/ provides a full listing of all online training provided by Refworks, including pre-recorded sessions which you can access at any time.

    You can also set up a Training feed which will update you on dates of training.

    Science Direct provides a gateway to over 500 fulltext journals including medical neuroscience, life sciences, and psychology collections.

    Web of Science provides access to the Science Citation Index Expanded and the Social Sciences Citation Index.

    This page provides access to user guides and support on a number of key resources, including our password-protected databases, available to download and print or view online.

    ASSIA
    Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts on the Web is an indexing and abstracting tool covering health, social services, psychology, sociology, economics, politics, race relations and education. The subject coverage is detailed in a factsheet and there are two versions of the ASSIA Database Guide available. One is in word format while the other is in pdf.

    Barbour Index
    Barbour delivers comprehensive, quick and up-to-date information on legislation and best practice for health, safety & environment professionals as well as those working within local authorities. Barbour v4.0 tutorial (Requires Adobe Flash . Also available is an html version ). For a quick overview look at the Barbour search hints and tips guide - available in pdf.

    Cochrane Library (Wiley)
    The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world’s best medical research studies, and are recognised as the gold standard in evidence-based health care. The Cochrane Library help, demos and guides.

    DynaMed
    DynaMed provides summaries of evidence on approximately 4,000 clinical topics and includes links to many full-text international guidelines (including NICE and SIGN), Cochrane systematic reviews, research and review articles, PubMed abstracts and patient information. Drug information from the BNF and BNF for Children is currently (Aug 2011) being piloted. A user guide and A3 poster is available.     ebrary
    ebrary provides access to a collection of social work and psychology ebooks. The ebrary support and training pages provide useful information on training, guidance and promotional materials.

    EBSCOHost
    The EBSCOHost training centre provides details of online training (including Cinahl and PsycINFO) as well as access to user guides and other online support for EBSCO services.

    Emerald
    Emerald for Librarians is designed specifically for the library and information science (LIS) community to improve information services and better serve library users. There is also a webpage for users on how best to use "Browse", "Quick Search" and "Advanced Search", as well as understand fully the results pages and a step-by-step guide.

    Learning Exchange
    The Learning Exchange is a digital library of learning resources for social services and social work education and training.

    Ovid SP Resource Centre
    The OVIDSP Resource Centre provides latest news as well as materials to help you use and promote OvidSP and information on training. The OvidSP Help Index provides additional help and support information.

    ProQuest
    ProQuest provides online access to the full text of thousands of journals, newspapers and magazines with detailed abstracts and indexing for thousands of other publications. A user-guide is available for download.

    ProQuest also have their own YouTube channel.

    RefWorks
    An online research management, writing and collaboration tool which is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies. The Quick Start Guide will help you begin working with this tool. RefShare provides you with the ability to allow users to share your RefWorks database or just specific folders with other users of Refworks. The Refshare tutorial provides more information.

    RefWorks 2.0 quick start guide is also now available and they also have their own YouTube channel.
